Fantastic news, so we reached our initial target! What fantastic support from the village. But we're sure there are still people out there who are thinking of investing.
You may still be able to invest by completing an application form and sending a cheque or using bank transfer. For details, email [email protected]. Everything we can raise over the target will give us the opportunity to make the shop and cafe even better, so please don't hesitate if you're thinking of investing, and if you know anyone who's still thinking about it, then let them know we need as much as we can.
In the meantime thank you to all our investors.
We planned to close the Share Offer on 24th March, but we kept it open a little longer but closed the online portal on 14th April at 5pm, by which point we had raised over £90,000.
If anyone would like to contact us or find out more, please see our website www.normandyshop.co.uk or email us at [email protected], we may still be able to take investments by cheque or bank transfer.
Our invitation was for you to invest in a new shop and cafe for the villages that make up Normandy. Below you will find documents describing the community share offer, the business plan and the society rules.
Please note that to become a member of the Society we ask you to invest a minimum of £100, if you want to become a member. If you do find you can't invest that much, think about combining with a group of friends, family or neighbours. Please contact us if you'd like help with this.
Please note that when you are filling your details in, it asks for the name and address of 'the recipient' - that means you - you are the recipient of the Reward and the shares - not obvious, I'm afraid. Your name and the amount invested will show on the supporters page - you can select for your investment to be shown as Anonymous if you wish.
You are also asked whether you want to leave a tip - this is entirely up to you, you can select 0 if you wish by selecting 'Other amount' and 0. (Any amount added goes to Crowdfunder to support them as they are waiving fees for COVID-19 related funding).
By investing you are helping to ensure that Normandy has an asset that will benefit the whole community. You are also helping us to demonstrate the support of the community which will enhance our chances of raising grant funding.
Above: an artist's impression of our wonderful shop and cafe
The Normandy Community Shop and Café will be a place to have a natter, a cup of tea or coffee and a cake with friends, and make new ones; as well as a place to shop for groceries and quality local produce.
It will be at the heart of our community and will add to our village’s social scene and amenities alongside the Village Hall, St Marks Church, Emmanuel Church, Wyke School, the Therapy Garden, the various Pre-School groups and the other community groups, sports facilities and organisations.
The shop will support and champion local producers, helping them to thrive, and feed our local economy.
The café will provide inside and outside seating for you to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a delicious cake, whilst meeting up with friends. Just like our Pop-Up Cafe! which is shown below.
Once the shop and café are running sustainably, any profits we make will be ploughed back into community projects, making our village even more desirable.
Across the UK there are over 360 community run village shops serving their local communities and beyond. This is Normandy’s ‘once in a generation opportunity' to open our own community run village shop.
'We can’t do this without you'
We need to raise a minimum of £90,000 from our local community which will be supplemented by grants from various funders and sponsors and many local fund-raising activities to contribute to the overall target of £375,000. We believe we can achieve this, but we must not be complacent.
Alongside this share issue, we have applied for grant funding from the Surrey County Council 'Your Fund' scheme, from which we believe we can raise a significant proportion of the capital costs, but we need your help to demonstrate the support for our venture by investing in the business. By raising the required £90,000 we can show how important this is to the village and convince Surrey County Council that not only do we have a need for a shop and cafe, but also we are prepared to demonstrate our support by investing ourselves.
Please don’t leave it to others, as the more we raise above and beyond our minimum target, the better the shop and cafe will be and the less we need to have to borrow in loans.
This is your chance to play your part in establishing a community shop and cafe and create a lasting legacy for generations to come.
The plans
The shop and cafe will be an attractive addition to Manor Fruit Farm. The shop will not only provide common grocery products - it will also provide a showcase for local suppliers and producers.
The cafe will offer a fantastic range of hot and cold drinks, cakes, and a variety of hot and cold food. The building will be sited near to The Therapy Garden and will have external patio areas where you can sit outside and enjoy the open spaces around.
To invest in our Village Shop and Café and become a member of Normandy Community Shop and Café Limited, you need to make a minimum investment of £100 (10 shares at £10 each). You can buy as many shares as you want above and beyond this threshold up to the maximum of £14,000. Each investor is entitled to one vote at the AGM, where every member is able to be involved in the running and development of the business.
We have set a minimum investment at £100 to give everyone the opportunity to become a member, but we need you to buy as many shares as you feel able to, so that we can minimise the need for costly loans to support the venture.
Please read carefully the Share Offer Document and, if you need further information the Business Plan also. You must be over 16 years old to subscribe for and / or own shares and must also be interested in promoting the Objects of the Society.
Please follow the simple steps and let's make this shop and café a reality.
