Creating your project

Make your project shine with an engaging story and tempting rewards. Decide how much you want to raise and how long you’ll crowdfund for.

Tell your story

When you start working on your Crowdfunder page, one of the most important things you’ll need to do is tell the story behind your project. You’ll be able to tell your story two ways: in written form and through a video. While adding a video to your page isn’t mandatory, it’s a really good idea if you want to capture more interest in your project. If you decide to give it a try, make sure you follow our experts’ advice on how to nail your project video.

The biggest part of your Crowdfunder page is usually the written story. This is where you should explain exactly what you are trying to do and how you are going to do it. The best project pages have a well-written story that is engaging, structured and concise. Organising your story into short sections will make your project page much easier to read. You can use headings to break it up and direct your supporters to where they can find the information they’re looking for.

Alongside the written text, pictures can also help to add colour and personality to your story. Add lots of photos, as well as any other images that help to make your project shine. These might include reward images, infographics, maps, design sketches and team photos.

Offer rewards

Projects on Crowdfunder can offer rewards in return for pledges, as well as simply collecting donations. Rewards are a brilliant way to say 'thank you' and give people something in return for their support.

When you think about the different things you could offer in return for pledges, remember they could be something physical, a unique experience, digital goodies or something else entirely. It’s a good idea to start by thinking about what would motivate the people you know to make a pledge. Rewards should always offer good value for money and be spread across different price points. If you’re stuck for reward ideas, take a look at some previous projects for inspiration.

When completing the rewards section for your Crowdfunder project you'll need to give each reward a title, which you'll want to keep short and snappy. Next you'll add more information about the reward and what it involves. You'll then specify how much a supporter must pledge to receive that reward. Finally, you'll specify how many of each reward are available or if that reward is unlimited.

Prize Draws

If you have one exceptional reward to offer, then why not consider running a Prize Draw? This is a new alternative way of raising money on Crowdfunder which is simple and quick. Setting up a prize draw is also a great way to entice your crowd, engage your audience, and create buzz around your fundraising efforts.

Set your target

Now it’s time to set your target. If there’s a certain amount of money you need to raise to complete your project, then this is where to ask for it.

There are a lot of things to consider when setting your target, including whether it’s achievable and realistic. Will you be able to reach it within the time frame of your Crowdfunder and can you reach enough people? Don’t forget you’ll need to account for the costs of rewards too.

If you’re new to crowdfunding or not sure how much to ask for, you can get inspiration from what successful projects have done in the past. They’ve been through the process of raising money this way, so can offer valuable insight.
